second storey addition

The addition of a second storey to this house combined with a substantial alteration of the ground floor layout reflects a desire to take full advantage of the view over Pittwater. A very closed and convoluted ground floor layout was demolished to make room for a major open plan kitchen / dining / living room opening out to the downward sloping site. A previously under utilised space to the rear was turned into a BBQ patio with direct access to the kitchen. The 3-flight stair case to the second storey was positioned such that it would allow maximum exposure to the view upstairs. The new bedroom and office take up the majority of the space upstairs with a bathroom and the stair case in the middle. The uninterrupted panoramic line of windows stretch from the western façade around to the north façade in the bedroom along to the staircase landing and into the office on the other side where it wraps around to the eastern façade. The deep awnings, particularly to the east and west, allow for a vast amount of glazing without compromising the thermal comfort of the house.
