the sun, the wind and the ocean

On a small mountain range at the French riviera lies the town of Site. Due to the thermal conditions in this area, the buildings require a very flexible system of airconditioning, protecting against both the wind or the sun at different times of the day.
The five appartments are placed “casually” as independent buildings on the slope angled slightly differently towards each other. Each of the appartments is built around an installation shaft in the middle to which all kitchen, toilet and storing facilities are connected. This shaft is flanked on both sides by two free standing walls carrying the first floor and the roof terrasse. I imagine that most of the time will be spent on the terrasse, upon which I have placed a three-segment parasol like installment, offering the essential flexibilty of shade and air circulation. The construction of louvres on the facade offers the same flexibilty by opening and closing parts and sections according to the specific needs at the time of day.
Each of the appartments are consequently climatically controlled manually but also very naturally – the two climate installations are able to regulate the temperature with a very large margin.
