boyds bay marina
| dry boat storage and marina
[micheal fountain architects]
MFA decided to engage in an EOI for a Marina facility in Tweed Heads which would include both wet and dry berths along with all associated services and facilities:
The Proposal is still under deliberation at Tweed Heads Council and the Department of Lands.
The Commercial Maritime Building:
The Commercial Maritime Building is the signature building of the development. Reminiscent of a wave or the hull of a boat, the curved form positions itself as a natural extension of the existing surrounding features; the shoreline, Minjungbal Drive, Boyd’s Bay Bridge and Razorback Ridge rising on the other side of the Inlet.
Dry Boat Store:
A facade of twisted steel slats renders the Dry Boat Store completely opaque at the dense end of the development and gradually opens up towards the Inlet and Boyd’s Bay Bridge at the other end, allowing views from the water and from the bridge into the spectacle of the stacked boats and the operations of the fork lift truck.
Other associated buildings were:
- Marina and Dry Boat Store
- Retail and Commercial to cater for the Marina and the Dry Boat Store
- Boat Maintenance and Repair Facilities
- Tourist Accommodation and Parking
- Administration
